ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
o Yesterday afternoon, a horse, belonging to Mr Alexander, dropped dead at New Brighton. Mr Alexander had ridden from town and tied the horse •to a fence. On returning about an hour afterwards he found the animal lying dead. On Monday, at Fernside, Mr R. Koas met with a serious reaper accident, by whioh he was dragged and his thigh lacerated. He was attended to by Dr. Baber, of Kangiora. (press association- telegram). GISBORNE, January 15. A sad bathing accident happened at 3.30 this afternoon. Three nurses at the Hospital, Misses Sheffield, Brown and Fisher, went to bathe in theTarnberu river, close to the Hospital. Nurse Sheffield got out of her depth and, being unable to swim, was drowned. The others made a brave bat fatile effort to recover her. The body has not yet been recovered. It is understood that Miss Sheffield has friends at the Thames.
