At tho inquest ou tho body of Nelly Perkins, at Giorit, a victim of the Kaipara boating fatality, the verdict was "Acoidently drowued." A rider was appended, appreciating Mr Edwards' bravery iv trying to save the party; but it was considered that the boat was overcrowded. ' *' ' NiSLSuN, January 15. Another death of a Chinaman occurred on board tho barque Lothair about midday today. The patient had been seen by the health officer previously, and it was supposed that he was convalescent. Dr. Roberta went out to the barque iv place of the health officer, and the man died shortly after his return to the shore. WELLINGTON, January 15. In Chambers to-day Mr J lutice William* granted the request of the Provisional Directors of the Colonial Bank to pay a first dividend of 10d per share. DUNEDIN, January 15. At a meeting of the Benevolent Trustees, an elderly man, who had been an inmate for thirfcy-five weeks, appeared and offered £9 in payment of his keep during that period. It appeared that he had become entitled to some money, and he desired to reimburse the cost he had put the Trustees to. The money was accepted. The youth Bertie Jones, who was arrested on a charge of stealing money from his employer at Coromandei, was to-day remanded to Auckland. There are seventeen applicants for the positions of the two Assistant Inspectors required by the Education Board, most of the candidates being teachers in the Board's service. The City Council decided to-night to try and secure a new site for the abatotira. INVERCARGIL L, January 15. The weather has been very unseasonable since the new year. It is now raining hard.
