WEDDING AT BROOKSIDE.
A wedding that caused a very large amount of interest in the Ellesmere district took place on Thursday last at Mra Janet Graham's, Harttield, Brookside. The contracting parties were Miss Mary Graham, only daughter ot Mrs Janet Graham, aud Mr John Chamberlain, the youngest uou of Mrs Chamberlain, of Ellesmere, and youngest brother of the well-known and highly-respected clan of Chamberlain brothers. There was a very large attendamce of relatives and friends at the wedding ceremony, and again in the evening, when Mr Graham gave a dance. Most of the old families in tbe district were represented at the gathering. A large marquee with a first-class woodeu floor was erected on tho lawn, in which the wedding breakfast and the dance took place. The Rev. W. Grant conducted the marriage ceremony, Miss Lochhead acted as bridesmaid, and Mr Robert Graham as best man. After the marriage eighty guests sat down to the breakfast, The Rev. W. Grant proposed the health of " Bride and Bridegroom," Mr Chamberlain responding. The several toasts honoured were " The Hostess," proposed by Mr Kneeshaw and responded to by Mr John Rennie ; " The bridesmaid," proposed by Mr Arthur Chamberlain and responded to by Mr Graham ; " Old Acquaintances," by Mr Lochhead and responded to by Mr Cargill, Temuka. There were a large number of useful and costly wedding presents. Dancing was kept up with great spirit until 3 a.m., when one of the most enjoyable and successful parties ever held in the district was brought to a termination by the singing of ''Auld Lang Syne."
