WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB AUTUMN MEETING.

Again fine weather favoured the Wangauui Jockey Club, and there was very little diminution in the attendance from thab of Cup Diy, despite the fact that Mr Evett was ~o unsuccessful in handicapping that very email fields went out, except In the case of tbe haclc races, for which Mr Coyle handicapped. The atartiug of Mr Chavannes was very pood. The owners of a number of horses in the Hack Race objected to Dandy being allowed to start under Rule 1-7 and other rules of racing. The Stewards had Mr Stevens before them, and failing to get satisfactory evidence of the previous history of the horse and the owner, who, though be alleged he had been in New Zealand five years, said he could nob gee a friend to identify him, and speak as to his antecedents, or anyone who knew 1 the horse. The Stewards have given hiiu until March 22nd to produce full particulars about his horse, failing which the stake won by Dandy will be paid to the owner of Stray.shot. The sum of £5130 was put through tbe machines, making £11,405 for the two day.-*. Armstrong, Gallagher, and Connop were each fined *5 for disobedience iv the Autumn Haudicap. MrSattoa'sbf Ivy, 2 yrs, 6st7lb (McPherson) 0 From a good start Ivy took up the running, and carried it on to the entrance of tbe straight, when St. Laura came along aud settled the pretensions of the two-year-old, who speedily retired, the daughter of St. Leger winning very easily by two lengths from Poinsettia, who passed Swordbelt in the last hundred yards. Woodley's b g Strephon, aged, list 21b (Higgins) 3 Strephon led for half a mile when he fell, and Oaklands assumed command, Couranto keeping close up until the last half mile, when he passed the light weight, and literally cantered in winning by a clear length. Eventually a good start was effected, Haeata running to the front, Ivy next, but the latter at the bend for home came through and Haeata collapsed. Within tho distance St. Laura was headed by Dreamland, who suddenly compounded, and Poiusettiagalloplng the stronger shot up iv the last thirty yards on the outsid*, and Musket on the inside, Poinsettia winning by three-quarter* of a length. Dreamland just beating Musket for second place, Goodwood fourth, St, Laura fifth. Time, lmia 44 15th sec Totalisator, 1020 —35; dividend, £26. Insignia and Gold Cup continued in the front to the home turn, from which point Kai Iwi Lady, Strike, Bonoveree and [ Stray Shot were hard at It; Kai Iwi Lady I makiiog a dash nearing borne, and winning by a good length, Strike half a length ahead of Bonovoree a_d Stray Shoe, who were separated by a bare neck. Kai Iwi Lady, who would have paid her backers £22185, was weighed in half pound *hort, and the stakes were consequently awarded Co Strike. Consolation Handicap, of 40 soys; second 10 aovs from stake. of starter for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club have unformed Mr Chavannes that his offer to do the work is not accepted. From a private source I learn that Mr E. Gilpio, a local man, is likely to be appointed. Mr Chavannes' starting gave great satisfaction here."
