WAR IN SAMOA.
ALLEGED INTRIGUES BY FOREIGNERS. (PBKSS ASSOCIATION nZJteBAK.) AUCKLAND, July 13. The Alameda brought news from Apia, dated 7th inst., Btating that fighting had commenced that morning near Apia, botween the rival factions of Malietoa and Mataafa. Business is very dull in Apia, and almost suspended on account of the war. The natives are entrenched a few miles from the town of Apia, and it ia believed that the long deferred war between the rival native parties has at last commenced, and that the struggle will be a prolonged one. King Malietoa's party outnumbered the so-called rebels by three to one, but it is believed that if Mataafa is victorious in the first engagement his forces would be greatly augmented in consequence. Mataafa's forces, like Malietoa's, are well supplied with arms and ammunition of the latest type has been supplied to them by intriguing foreigners who have been fomenting a war in Samoa. It it believed that the crisis has been to a large degree brought about by tbe intrigues *of white persons, and the Natives declare that they will fight the foreigners if they inter* fere in the war. .Two German cruisers are at Samoa, and British and American ships are now bound there from Auckland and Honolulu.
