ALLEGED CRUELTY TO A GIRL.

At the City Police Court yesterday morn* ing Arthur Cribb and Alice Cribb, his wife, were charged before Mr G. W. Russell, J.P., with having wilfully illtreated their daughter, Ada Cribb, eleven years and ten months of age, in a manner likely to cans* injury to her health. Mr T. W. Stringer appeared for tho Crown and Mr M. Donnelly for both accused. Mr Stringer said the accused had only been arrested the previous day and the prosecution asked for an adjournment as they were not prepared to go on with the case at present. He had arranged with Mr Donnelly that the case should be taken on Friday week and'the only question would be that of bail. Mr Donnelly said the girl was at present in the Hospital and was, he understood* suffering from measles, in addition to what she might be suffering from her alleged ill treatment. Apart from the present case the father was a respectable resident of Lincoln, where he was a platelayer, and Ms wife, also a respectable woman, had?four children at home to look after. As the man was only a platelayer, he would ask that the Bench should make the bail as light as it reasonably could. Mr Stringer said that as far as the woman was concerned they would not ask for bail in her case if she were allowed her liberty on her own' recognisance. The husbands bail would be sufficient.

The Bench remanded the case until Friday, 21st inst., bail being allowed to Arthur Cribb in his own recogrrisaEee of £50 and two sureties of £25 each, and to Alice Cribb in her own recognisance ot £50.
