THE WORKMEN'S LIEN BILL
(Br. Tma&ArH.)
(isok ont sncoxAi. coßuarconraofT.) WELLINGTON, September 10. The Labor Bills Committee of the Legislative Council have presented the following sweeping report with respect to the Workmen's Lien BUl—that they have carefully considered the BilL and have made amendments therein, but they find it impossible to make the BUI a practical measure. They think that the title of the BUI is a misnomer; that the Workmen's Wages Act, 1884, provides the necessary protection for workmen's wages, and the BUI before the Committee, dealing as it does chiefly with contracts, would* discourage the undertaking of work under contract. They think that such an unnecessary restriction would dimjpfiih the demand for labor and would increase the difficulty of obtaining work—a difficulty sow complained of by the laboring cfanoon. The Committee report the BilL with amendments, but considering that the results of the law, if passed, would be increase of litigation and restrictions of labor, are not' prepared to recommend the naming of the BilL
