AVON ROWING CLUB.
A letter has been received by the Secretary of this Club from the Private Secretary of his Excellency the Governor Lord Onslow, signifying his Excellency's willingness to accept the position of Patron of the Club. The race for the Club's doable sculls takes place next Saturday afternoon for B. Petersen and Co.'s prizes, and should result m some close finishes, as the crews have been out regularly each evening during the past three weeks. With a view of contesting the maiden pairs and double sculls, junior pairs and double sculls at the Lyttelton regatta, the Committee have sent crews into training for these events, and as Mr Fred. Fuller and his brother intend coaching the crews it is imperative on the part of each man that he pays the strictest attention to practice and training, for the time between now and the Ist of January is none too long, and if the men do not show something like decent form by the date of the regatta they will not be sent. Nothing annoys a coach more than to find that his efforts are not thoroughly seconded by those under his care. __■
