ASHBURTON RACING CLUB.
A* a-fleeting of the Ashburton Racing Club, held on Saturday evening, tenders were received for working the totalisator for three years, and t bat of Messrs Mason and Roberts was accepted. The draft programme for tae Spring Meeting was considered and adopted as follows:—First day—Handicap Hurdle Race of 40 sovr. two miles; Maiden Plate [(district race) of 20 soys, one mile; Ashburton Cap Handicap of 70 soys, one mile end a half; WJndermere Handicap (diswict race) of ?o soys. three-quarters of a mile; Novel Race of 2*> _ov's,half a mile; Spring Handicap of 30 soys, one mile ; District Welter Handicap of 25 soys, one mile and a quarter. Second Day—County Hurdle Race Handicap, at 35 soys, one mile and a half; Ashburton Racing Club Handicap, of 50 spvs, one mile and a quarter; Disposal fia#«srf ** aoro, «f a ouiie;
Welter Handicap, of 35 soys, one mile and a half; Trotting Handicap, of 20 soys, two miles; Eying Handicap, of 30 30V9, five furlongs; County Plate Handicap, of 30 soys, one mile. Tbe Ground Committees report was read, and after consideration it was decided to proceed with the erection of a new shilling stand, with confectioner's and publican's booths underneath ; to erect new entrance gates ; to make some alterations to the saddling paddock, aud fence In the weighing room, and to asphalt or cement the paths leading to each room. It was also decided to invite suggestions from district owners and trainers with reference to the construction and maintenance of a training track.
At the S.C.J.C. meeting on Monday night the balance-sheet showed a profit of £211 on the year's work, encouraging the Committee to offer a more liberal programme for the September meeting.
