SHEEP RETURNS.
[Br Telegraph.] [FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, August 6. The annual Sheep Returns laid on the table to-day show that there has been a large increase in the number of sheep in the North Island, amounting to about 200,000, while in the South Island there has been a decrease of about 300,000. The total sheep in the colony in 1887 were 15,155,000, and in 1888 15,042,000, being a decrease of 113,000. The annual report of the Stock Inspectors for the year ending March, 1889, are of a satisfactory nature.
