_Bt Telegraph.] [from our special coerkspondhnt.] WELLINGTON, August 6. A return has been laid on the table showing the comparative amounts of cargo and passengers carried by the San Francisco and Direct steamers fcr the year 1887-8: —The inward cargo by the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamers was 16,500 tons measurement and 7000 tons weight, and outward cargo 19,600 tons. Inward cargo by the Shaw, Savill steamers was 25,400 tons and outward cargo 23,600 tons. The inward cargo by the San Francisco route was 1892 tons, and outward cargo 864 tons. The passengers by the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamers are : —Arrivals 1911, and departures 1126; by the Shaw, Savill, arrivals 1747, and departures 793; and by the San Francisco service, arrivals 197, and departures 507. The coal consumed by the New Zealand Shipping was 24,430 tons; by the Shaw, Savill, 21,039 tons; by the San Francisco route, 8315 tons.
