The Republican tariff would reduce the revenue by 75,000,000 dollars, chiefly by the reduction of duties on alcohol, tobacco, and sugar. In their proposals the duty on wool is fixed at eleven cents. McKill, who was arrested on buspicion of being concerned in the death of the man King, who was killed on the Midland Railway line, has been committed for trial. LORD HARTINGTON AT INVERNESS. The Marquis of Hartington, speaking at Inverness on the conduct of the Parnellite party, said it differed very little from actual rebellion. Mr Gladstone's whole aim was to discredit the administration of the law in Ireland. THE THIBETAN WAR. Calcutta, October 3. The Pall Mall Gazette strongly opposes the annexation of Bechuanaland to the Cape,, and urges that together with Western Australia it
should be reserved as Crown colonies, to relieve Great Britain of surplus population. MR GLADSTONE'S CORRESPONDENCE. It is etated that Mr Gladstone is revising his public correspondence dealing with the leading events of his life, with a view to publishing at an early date.
