Received October 6th, 10.30 p.m. London, October 4. Tallow is quiet. Mutton, 28s to 28s 6d; beef, 27s to 27s 6d. Sugar is flat; German beet, 12s 9d. Skins and hides are in fair demand. Ox hides, 4£d. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion at £10,302,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 33 J per cent., being a decrease of £1,898,000 in the total reserve and a decrease of 8£ per cent. in. the proportion of reserve to liabilities. Kauri gum—The market is flat. Received October 6th, 1.15 a.m. ' ' London , , October 4. Wool—The recent advance is maintamed for bust merino combings and mediums and common scoured crossbrods. Other descriptions show a decline as compared with the July closing rates. The market is geneiiPy steadier. New consols, £98 ss. The market rate of discount has advanced to 4| per cent.
