RANGIORA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
• This Committee met on Wednesday evening. There were present—Messrs H. Boyd (Chairman), T. Boyd, S. Stephens, C. J. Jennings, W. Foster, and W. H. Luxton. A letter was read from the Board of Eaeation, notifying the appointment of George Schneider as assistant master, and- stating that he would commence his duties on the 16th prox.; also, asking for information with regard to John Anderson, lately recommended as pupil teacher, and that the Board would appoint him as soon as they received certain information respecting him. The Chairman reported having attended a meeting of the Chairmen of Committees at Christchurch on Friday last, a report of the proceedings of which had appeared' in the papers. The master's report was read. It stated the average weekly attendance to have been ■— August 3rd, 296.5; August 10th, 233.7; August 17th, 301.4; August 24th, 305.4. The number on the roll at the beging of the month was 356, at the end 351; admitted 2, left 7; percentage of the roll number in attendance, 81. Jslne tenders for the post of caretaker of the school were received, and opened, and that of Arthur Thompson, for £19 lftj, was accepted. The master reported that the annual examination of the school had recently been held, but, until the Inspectors report had been received, little was known of the state of the school. The holidays for Michaelmas commence on Friday next. Messrs C. J. Jennings and S. Stephens were appointed Visiting Committee for the month, and the meeting terminated.
