NORTH BELT LITERARY ASSOCIATION.
The above Society brought its session to a close on Tuesday evening, the 28th inst., by a social entertainment, held in the schoolroom belonging to the church. Punctually at 7 p.m. between sixty and seventy sat down to a capital tea provided by the ladies connected with the Society. The tables were presided over by Mrs Webster, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Parrott, Miss Goss, and Miss Rosa Budden. Afterwards the guests adjourned to the church, where Mr H. M. Johnson entertained them to selections on the organ. A return was made to the schoolroom, where a very pleasant evening was spent. Songs and pianoforte selections were rendered during the evening by Mrs Campbell, Mrs Pearce, Miss Vv ebster, Miss R. Budden, Miss Morrow, and Messrs Johnson, W. Wilkinson, and Campbell. Games were also provided for those who were not musically inclined, and altogether the entertainment proved as great a success as that which has attended every meeting during the session. A vote of thanks, proposed by Mr R. Dick and seconded by Mr J. Campbell, and carried with' acclamation, was accorded the ladies who assisted the Society throughout its session, and indeed who were the main feature in its success; also, a vote of thanks was accorded the secretary, Mr D. Sutherland, for the very great energy he had displayed in the work of the Socity. About half-past 10 o'clock the meeting was brought to a close. Thus ended the fourth, and by far the most successful, session of the Association. On Tuesday evening next a lecture on Dr. Carey, the converted cobbler, will be given in aid of the funds of the Society. This lecture was postponed from the 21st on account of bad weather.
