NORTHERN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

The annual general meeting of this Associatioa was held on Thursday afternooa at the Raugiora Road Board office, when -there was an attendance of over fifty members, Mr W. Buss, President, in the chair. , Mr J. Fulton, Hon. Secaretary, congratulated the Society on continued success, although unable, as anticipated, to show a credit balance. The main reasons for the shortness were outstanding accounts, which had not been included last year, increased amount of prize money, and the necessity for outlay on additional sheep hurdles. They started with a debit balance of £42 8s Bd, accounts due £20 8s 4d, hurdles £24, and increased prize money, giving a total outlay of £189 13s. He regretted there were some members who had not paid their subscriptions. In view of the hard times, it would be advisable to reduce amount of prizes till such time as they could obtain a clean sheet, and members should make a united effort to attain that object. An item of tent hire, £12 13s 9d, was one which might be met by the purchase of a tent for £32, which would last many years, and could be let on hire. The exhibits of last show were well maintained, and the exceptionally fine winter ought to bring forward full classes of stock at the coming show. A new feature in the cavalry competition had been intro duced last year. In dairy produce the show excelled, but the introduction of separators and butter workers must be borne in mind, and it was hoped before long that a factory "would be started in the district. All the members would regret the loss of Mr W. Williams, who had hitherto heartily supported the objects of the show. The balance - sheet showed the receipts to have been —Subscriptions, £234 7s; advertisements, £36 Is ; horse parade, £4 17s ; show entries, gate money, &c, £23910s 7d; prizes and trophies, £161 4s; sundries, £6 10s; Dr. balance, £96 8s 8d ; toeal, £823 Ids 3d. The expenditure was—Balance, £42 8s 8d; prizes, £329 19s; expenses of horse parade, show, &c, £256 10s yd ; total, £731 9s 7d. The assets were (including hurdles, office, &c>-£278145; the liabilities, unpaid prizes, £31 18s 4d; balance,, £246 15s Bd. On the motion of Mr G. Cone, seconded by Mr M. Macfarlane, the report and balance-sheet were adopted, after some remarks by the Chairman. A protest by Mr M. Duncan, against Mr Busch'e Farewell as prize-taker of Mr Buss's prize in regard to breeding, made out at the last show, was brought op. Mr Busch asked when it was lodged. The Secretary said he believed before the class was judged, and the onus of proof of breeding would lie with the owner. ' Mr Busch said he first heard of a protest after the prize was awarded to Farewell. Mr J. L. Wilson moved—"That the < protest be referred to the Committee," pointing out evidence conld be taken and the question decided. Mr R. Liggett seconded. Mr Busch read the pedigree of his mare in the Stud* Book, and was proceeding to refer to the breeding of a mare entered in the class by Mr Duncan. Mr Wilson pointed out that the breeding of Mr Duncan's mare was not in question. After some further discussion the motion to refer the question to the Committee was carried. Mr F. Busch moved, Mr J. Lilly seconded—" That a hearty vote of thanks be recorded to the retiring officers for their valuable services." Carried nem con. Another protest by Mr L. KiDLEY against Mr P. C. Threlkeld's pony Lavender on the ground of being over height was also deferred. The Chairman said the election of officers came next, and he asked for nominations for that of Secretary and Treasurer. Mr Busch had great pleasure in proposing the re-election of Mr Fulton as Secretary and Treasurer. He was the best and most thoroughly genial Secretary they ever had. (Applause.) Mr Pearson seconded, and the motion was carried by acclamation. Mr Fulton said he hoped the prize list would be put in such a shape that expenses would be kept down, and he was prepared to do his best in the interests of the Society. Mr T. Pashby proposed — "That Mr Buss be re-elected President." That gentleman had rendered signal service to the Society, and had kept its interests together. (Applause.) Mr J. .Lilly seconded. The Chairman, thanking the proposer and seconder, said he had allowed the office of Secretary to be filled before making the announcement that he did not intend to accept office as President. (No, no.) For three years he had filled the position, and as there were several gentlemen in the room eligible, he considered it advisable in the interests of the Society that there should be a change. He proposed Mr Malcolm Macfarlane 83 President. He was a gentleman who had taken a lively interest in the affairs of the Association, and thanking members for their cordial assistance for three years, and their kind invitation to him to take the honor again, he proposed Mr Macfarlane. Mr P. C. Threlkeld seconded, and the motion was carried. Mr Macfarlane acknowledged the appointment with thanks, expressing his regret at the determination of Mr Buss. The Chairman expressed the regret of the Society on the death of Mr W. F. Pearson, whose decease was a loss to the district and the country at large. The Hons. E. Richardson and H. B. Gresson, and Mr J. D. Lance were elected patrons. Mr C. Dampier-Crossley moved, and Mr Liggett seconded—"That only one Vice-President be elected, and Mr Buss be appointed to that office." Carried. At a meeting of the Committee it was decided that the protest regarding Mr Threlkeld's pony be decided by an exhibition of the two ponies in the protest. In reference to Mr Duncan's protest against Mr Busch's Farewell not being a thoroughbred mare, it was resolved that the protest be disallowed, and that the special prize given by the President for the best thoroughbred mare on the ground be paid to Mr Busch. The meeting then adjourned.
