EYRETON.

The monthly' meeting -was held on November 7th, 1887. Present — Messrs Evans (Chairman), Denton, Power, and Smith. The Surveyor's report was read, — vand several matters mentioned were or ordered to stand orer. The following ■ol letters were read:—From Mr J. S. Jackson's to White's roads. Mr Denton proposed, and Mr Power seconded—" That the Surveyor report on the work, and that Mr White be informed the Board will assist in doing the work as soon as funds are available." Carried. Christcharch Hospitalßoard,requestingpayment of the contribution, £Bdßs9d, due to March 3d, 1885, which was ordered to stand over until next meeting. Caleb Whitefoord, requesting the Board to build a new bridge over the Mill road drain at the back of his house, or compel Mr Stone to do the work. Mr Denton proposed, and Mr Power seconded—" That Mr Whitef oord be informed that there was a ditch fronting his land before the present drain was enlarged by Messrs Eckersley and Birch, and as the Board cannot compel Mr Stone to rebuild the bridge, the Board will have the drain filled in if necessary." Carried. J. Marshall, requesting the Board to prevent the overflow of the creek on Harr's road, or he would hold the Board responsible for any damage if the work is not done before February next. Mr Denton proposed,and MrPowerseconded— " That Mr Marshall be informed the Board will fill up the side of the road on the south side of the creek to the natural surface level, and the ford will be made as soon as the water will allow before next winter," Carried. Messrs Garrick and Cowlishaw, stating that judgment for £41155, with costs, had been given against the Board in the case of Stanton v the •Eyreton Road Board. Resolved—That the amount be paid when rendered. John Davis, requesting to be allowed to examine the Board's books referring to the Eyre protective works account. Mr Deuto'n proposed, and Mr Smith seconded—" That the books be open to Mr Davis on Wednesday, November 16th, in office hours." John feinley offered to rent the cottage on the Cemetery road for a term of three years at 4s per week rent. Archibald Gillis offered to rent the cottage for one year at 5s Od per week. James Bollington offered to rent the cottage for three years at 5s per week, and keep the same in order, which was ordered to be accepted. William Smith complained of Dedrick Chapman having put willows in the river at the end of Elder's road. The Surveyor was ordered to examine the place, and, if necessary, to give notice for their immediate removal. John Armstrong applied for £10 on account of work done below HassalFs ford, and was informed the Board would pay £5 on account, and the balance when the work was completed. Messrs Threlkeld and McGregor requested the Board to put in a culvert across the road at the south end of the Flaxton bridge, and was informed this Board considered it was a matter the River Board should deal with, as the trouble was caused by the shingle lodged in the main drain ; also the Board would put a flood gate to the present culvert as soon as possible. Messrs Dixon, Elder and Burgess requested the Board to continue the embankment on the south side from Dixon's to the Eyre outlet, and from Burgess' road to the creek on the north side, and offered to do half the work at their own cost, and wait for the balance until the Board was in funds. Resolved that the Surveyor take the levels and report to the Board, who would meet on the ground on Friday, November 18th, at 9 a.m. The Surveyor was directed to have some of the sand removed from the bridges on the North road, and shingle the remainder under the contract for repairs. Accounts amounting to £339 12s 8d was passed, and ordered to be paid. A number of gorse notices was signed, and ordered to be served.
