ME AYERS AT HEATHCOTE VALLEY. Last evening Mr A. Ayers addressed a meeting in the public schoolroom at Heathcote Valley. The chair was occupied by Mr Sandtord, jun., and there waa a large attendance of electors. Mr Ayers, who was received with applause, gave aa address, the greater portion of which was almost to the same effect as that given at Woolston on Thursday evening last. In reply to questions Mr Ayers .stated that he would oppose the amalgamation of the Heathcote and Lyttelton electorates/as their interests were not identical. He was of opinion that the Charitable Aid Board should he elective, He believed the railways should be under the control of a Board of Management, elected in the same manner as the Lyttelton Harbor Board. With regard to the Volunteer question, he would foster the movement as far as possible. He would do his utmost to enable the children of the poorer classes to take advantage of the High Schools. He was decidedly of opinion that the publication of disgusting details of Court cases should be checked to the interests of public morality.
