MR JONES AT HALSWELL.
Mr Frederic Jones addressed a large audience at the Halswell Schoolroom last evening, about seventy persons being pre* sent. Mr Lewis was voted to the chair. After briefly referring to the questions of general politics, Mr Jones went into details touching the important and essential work of improving the drainage ot the Halswell and adjacent district. He recommended that the district make application to Parliament through the local members for a ohange in the " Lake Beclamation and Akaroa Bailway Trust,” so as to obtiin a grant of lands (now tied up in that Trust), which will be improved and reclaimed by the proposed drainage -.scheme, such buds to be vested in a “ Halswell Sim Board ” for the purposes of carrying taat essential work, the drainage of the district, info effect, as at present incalculable loss is every wet season being inflicted in one of the most fertile districts in the colosyfor want of a prepei drainage outlet to the Lake. At the conclusion of his general address, which was frequently applauded, he was asked numerous questions, which he answered to the satisfaction of the meeting. Oa the motion of Mr H. A. Coventry Ferguson, seconded by Mr Sutton, a vote of thanks to Mr Jones for his address, and
