[nm ova ooßßaspoirDawT.J WELtHreTON. September 15. I am indebted to the courtesy of the Governor's Private Secretary for the information that his Excellency has received this evening a telegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the effect that Lieutenant Andrews, of the New Zealand force, who was recently examined for a oommisskn in the Imperial Army, has been appoiated to the battalion of the Sherwood Fore.tere, the Derbyshire regiment. Tbe battalion in question is now statir aed in Ireland. The Maori Missionaries (both European aad Native) woo attended the recent session of the Wellington Diocesan Synod, give a very diecouragir-g account of the religious condition of toe Natives on the West Coast of the Island, whom they describe as given over entirety to the heresiw of Tβ Whiti and completely under his influence. One missionary tells mc that his proffered ministrations have in some instances been rejected with open scorn aad derision, the utmost contempt being expressed at tbe idea of a pakeha preaching or praying being of the slightest valne.
