A DECIDED REFUSAL.

NAPIEB, September 16. At a meeting of the Hawke'e Bay Bugby Union last night the following telegram was read from the manager of the Sydney team of footballers.- — " Cannot detain steamer ; sorry to disappoint you. "What will yon guarantee for match Saturday if we play you instead Wellington ? Leave Auckland for Sydney Wednesday. Beply Warner'a Hotel, Christchurch." The meeting having discussed tbe above telegram carried the following resolution: — « That the Secretary be instructed to telegraph a reply ** follows:—"I am instructed by the Hawke's Bay Bagby Union in reply to your telegram of to-day's date, to inform you Chat the Union will not, under any consideration, offer you any pecuniary inducement to break your engagement with Wellington Union, and regrets such motives should influence any football team. lam also directed t > say that the Hawke'e Bay team absolutely decline topUy tbe Sydney team, and a copy of your telegram and this rtp'y will be sett to Wellington."
