RAILWAY CHARGES.
TO THB BDITOB OF THB PBESS. Sib, —Fault - finding is an unpleasant occupation, but the disadvantage Lyttelton labors under the above heading is sufficiently provoking. In the first place, the charge for haulage is excessive, 6s 9d I paid on a ton of soap yesterday; in fact, it seems to mc the real expense begins after the goods are landed.
Then again, the want of a Government bonded warehouse in Lyttelton. The bulk of our purchases are of necessity made in Christchurch, for which we have to pay double railway charges, going there and returning back. What our Christchurch men are thinking about when they see every inch of ground disputed by shoals of traveUers from Dunedin, Wellington, and other ports is a puzzle. Yours, &c., T. Mbbson.
