BIRDLING'S FLAT EXCURSION.
TO THBXDITOB OF THB PBESS. Sib, —A many excursionists to Birdling's Flat on Tuesday last were disappointed at not finding sufficient accommodation either to get to Little Biver or the sea beach, and many stayed in the carriages nearly all day; others who wished to get to the seaside found themselves going to Little Biver alongside the Lake road before they found out their mistake, others were rambling about and did not know where to go, and altogether matters were not satisfactory. Of course it will be better when the line is finished to Little Biver, but I am sure if a branch line was laid to the sea beach, about three-quarters of a mile, where families could land their children on the beach, it would become one of the most favorite places of resort for boating, fishing, Bhooting, bathing, and a scramble by the cliffs. The line would soon pay for itself, as it would cost little or nothing to put the sleepers and rails down as the ground is nearly level all the way. If this were done and excursion trams run at a moderate rate, there would be no lack of passengers, and accommodation would Boon Bpringup.. The late excursion to Birdling's Flat, say sixty miles return, was charged 4s and 6s 6d respectively, and for the Timaru excursion for 200 miles return was 5s and 7s 6d. This is out of proportion and beyond my calculation. It would be satisfactory to know how the authorities arrived at it, Yours, -0., EXCUBSJON.
