Mblbocbkb.—The "Argus'" of September 13th , . ■ Breadstnffs are very quiet, but though little has been dotSe, we have no change to report in price. < Floor is moving off for routine and sales to-(by have been made at £10 15s and £10 13s fid. Wheat is qnoted at 5s 3d, a price which is very generally asked. There is, bowever, not very much offering in the open market, notwithstanding that supplies of both flour and wheat have for the lost week ngain been very considerable indeed. Oats are not abradant, and milling qualities are even scarce. Best samples are quoted at 5s sd, and a parcel of medium has been placed at 5s 3fd, Feeding qualities are still qnotedtat 4s 10d to 5s ld._ The market is bare and prices unchanged. Maize is firmer again. Holders now ask ss, but there is no great demand experienced, the trade not being prepared to concede the advance now asked. Bran is moving off for export at Is 2d. Sugars are marked by improved activity, and numerous sales are reported. Fine whites have been sold at £37 : 10s; 400 bags yellows have been placed at £33; 250 bags fine brewers' hard sugar have been quitted at £33 10s; 250 pockets and 250 bags fine whites "have also been taken at up to £37 Further telegrams have come forward from Mauritius, The dates come up to,l7th August, and state, that the crops are hindered by rain, and that sugar was ;reaching towni very slowly. The market had only fairly opened for Bombay, and was very active for tha* .quarter on basis of 7.75d0l to 8.30d0l for good to finest whites, 7 75d0l for finest yellows, 7.90d0l forbrewer3' and7.lsdol for quality eqnal to D.S. No. 15. Only engagements not cleared were 803 tons for Port Ly ttelton, and 300 tons per Elizabeth, clearing for Adelaide; there was no inquiry for tonnage for Australia, owing to the high rates rnliug. Teas are in moderate request for trade purposes. The Georgma has arrived from Fooehow with a carjfo r of new season's, aad in all probability the shipment will be offered for sale on an early day. Currants are improving in value; 200 b»rrels—a good sample—only have been placed at 5d Two hundred eases lib salmon have been sold at 8s 9d to fls. Diamond oil is now selling at Is 2d, I and the. market' is firming. Bumours are current that-a large Holder has cleared out. luquirfes for halves sardines and qruirters are mentioned, and -business is pending at Sβ <Sd and 43 9d respectively. Th 6 Apollo Candle Company having- just reoeived a plant from England for the ranking of glycerine soap*, they have added that to their other manufactures, and the sample shown is quite equal to any imported.
ADEiarpE. —The "Observer" reports for the week ending August 80th —The produce market has been firm throughout the week at the last-quoted prices, but the amount of business done has not been large. On. Monday a fair-sized parcel changed hands at 5s 3d, several lots* were quitted at 5s 4sd inflos*. 1000 bags wheat Atiss 453, suiA 180 tons town flour at £12 Via 6d.to £13 15s. . HoU-bngs were sold on Cape account early in tbe week. Conntry flour has changed hands at £11 7s 6d, Port Adelaide. Of bran we have two reports—one miller gives it at Is 5(1, and another at Iβ 4£d, dull sale; polard, Issd to Iβ 6d; oats, ss; hurley, none in hand. Corn sacks ore'still offering at 8s 6d, duty paid, to anive, andat 83 4Jd on the spot. The exports for the week ending August 24th are —Wheat, 624 tons; floor, 2.011 tons; making the totnl exports for the year: Wheat; 74,6-18 tons; flour, 46,605 tons.
