TO THE ELECTORS OP THE AKAROA DISTRICT. ENTLEMEN, —I purpose presenting myself vJT on the nomination day as a candidate for jour seat in the General Assembly. I believe that for a long time the Maories have harboured the most sinister intentions towards our race in the North Island, and that everywhere, they have more or less counted at our hands such a series of thrashings as will, if anything can, revive their loyalty to the Queen's supremacy, and stimulate their henesty to ourselves. As I volunteered for the Maori war in April, 1860, you have my views on this subject in the most comprehensive form. Hitherto, at elections, I have always advised my brother electors to hold themselves completely unpledged until the day of nomination, I now request it. I shall visit all the Bays before the day of nomination, and have the honor of submitting my views to you on the other subjects of interest, but I shall not canvass your votes individually. White, I i have the honor of soliciting your support with a view to representing your district in the House of Representatives. Though a stranger to you, and hitherto untried in politics, I have the less hesitation in asking for your suffrages, as I have both the leisure to attend to, and the inclination to interest myself in, the momentous questions which are now agitating the Colony. Without at present entering into details, I wish it to be distinctly understood, that I shall strongly advocate the vigorous prosecution of the war, with a view to its speedy termination.
