Punishment Was Unmerited
It has been said that a schoolboy’s life is one long of woe, and this was borne out by an unusual, and altogether unfortunate, happening at a school recently. A group of boys who had been fighting were lined up outside the headmaster’s office waiting to be punished. Three of the boys had been caned by the headmaster, when he was approached by a very small boy who began: “Please, sir, I—” He was curtly told to get back to the end of the line. The process of caning went steadily on, until only three remained. Again the boy .tentatively started: “Please, sir,—” He was met with a cold rejoinder to wait his turn. Then his turn came, and he duly received his three whacks. Undaunted in spirit he approached the master. “Please, si,—” “Well, what is it?” he was asked. “Please, sir, I am from the school round the corner, and have a message from my headmaster.”
