Murupara-Galatea Women's Institute

There was a good attendance at the August meeting of the Muru-para-Galatea branch of the Women’s Division. The president, Mrs Hill presided. Mrs Caie, of Galatea, was enrolled as a new member. A basketball team was organised to play a team from the Galatea Women’s Institute on October 14.

A debate on “Time Payment” was won by the affirmative team, consisting of Mesdames Alexander, Pratt and Neville. The discussion was on whether wives should purchase things on the instalment plan or wait until they could pay cash. / Competition winners were:—

Rolling shilling, Mrs C. Allen 1; jam tarts '(short pastry), Mrs Allen 1, Mrs Willbond 2; vegetable, Mrs Williams and Mrs Hill tied for first place; single bloom, Mrs Williams and Mrs Kinzette equal, 1; head of flowers, Mrs Cawte 1, Mrs Gibbs 2.
