Early Calving Cows Bring Good Prices At Manawahe Sale
There was a large attendance of buyers from all parts of the Rangitaiki Plains at the sale of a dairy herd held by Dalgety and Co. Ltd. on account of Mr R. W. King, Manawahe. The inquiry for young and early calving cows was keen, with a top price of £33 being reached. The whole herd of cows and springing heifers averaged the satisfactory figure of £l9 14s. A few pigs and sundries offered sold at full late rates. Realisations:—
Best -young Jersey cows to calve, £2B to £33; good quality second calving cows, £2B to £25; older sound cows, £lB 10s to £2l; later calving cows, £l6 to £18; best springing Jersey heifers, £l9 10s to £2O 10s; other springing Jersey heifers, £l6 to £18; rising 5 year Jersey bull £lB.
to farrow,\£ls 10s to £lB 10s; rising 3 year old Berkshire boar, £8 10s.
