First Of Season’s Fine Pig Sales Draws Many Buyers

The first sale of buttermilk and store pigs was held last week by the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd at Te Puke. Although pigs were yarded in smaller number than at the corresponding period last year a very good yarding of good quality animals came forward. The fine quality pigs, which are wintered in the district, have attracted buyers to the Te Puke sales for many years and the excellent condition of all the pigs in the sale was freely commented upon from the buyers who attended from the Waikato and other Bay of Plenty districts. Most of the larger pigs went to outside districts. A small yarding of cattle sold under very keen competition at increased values. Prices:—

Pigs: Medium baconers, £6 14s to £6 19s; light baconers, £6 to £6 11s; large buttermilk pigs, £5 10s to £6: heavy porkers, £5 5s to £5 15s; light porkers, £4 to £4 15s; small stores, £3 10s to £4 10s; slips, £3 to £3 15 s; weaners, £2 10s to £3 Bs.
