Visitors Impressed By Orderliness Of N.Z. Town & Country

To Mr C. B. Marshall a visiting oil executive, New Zealand cities seem to be rather in contrast to what he described as the “orderly, well-kept countryside.” Mr Marshall, former general manager of Standard-Vacuum Oil Company India division is now a director of Standard-Vacuum Oil ,in New York. Accompanied by his wife, he has been in New Zealand since August. Mr Marshall comes of farming stock, and therefore is interested in this aspect of New Zealand’s development. Both he and Mrs Marshall are enthusiastic about New Zealand—its climate, which allows stock to be grazed' in winter without being housed, the neatly-fenced, green and well-farmed pastures, the farm houses, so spick and span that even the windows reflect cleanliness, the neat gardens, etc., all indicating the tremendous pride that the farmer took in his occupation, which was vital above all else in New Zealand’s prosperity. In city and country the friendly spirit of the people was outstanding, and would always be remembered by them, said Mr Marshall, He mentioned particularly a doctor who gave gratuitous service to them as a “friendly gesture in a strange land.”
