COMBINED CHURCH CHOIRS’ FINE PRESENTATION
A large crowd packed the Presbyterian hall at Whakatane on Wednesday night for the presentation of Felix Mendelssohn’s cantata, “Be Not Afraid”, by the combined choirs of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Anglican Churches. A fine example of combined voices the cantata was well received and the smooth harmonisation of - the choir of a difficult work wasf a treat not often available for Whakatane music lovers.
There were several soloists, each moving in to their parts with the ease of practised artists. In every case the audience was not slow to show their appreciation of the higii standard.
Accompanying music for the presentation was supplied on the organ by Dr E. T. Dawson and Mr R. B. Molgaard at the piano. They also presented several solo items. The soloists taking part hi the choir were Misses E. N. Barnett, B. Breckon and D. Stewart, Mesdames Te Hira Fergusson and T. Davie, Dr E. F. Cole, and Messrs C. Aicken and H. D. Paterson. The combined choirs have made similar presentations 'in previous years.
