PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS
OTAKIRI ACTIVITIES j The annual general meeting of the Otakiri Patriotic Society was held on the evening of April 28. Mr W. J. Murray was in tjie chair. There was a fair attendance by the public and all committee members were present. Reports and financial balance sheets were submitted, showing that a very satisfactory amount of £349 13s 4d had been collected during the past year under great difficulties. The chairman thanked the residents of the district for their staunch support. He stressed the need for greater efforts in the ensuing year. Officers for the ensuing year were then elected, Mr W. J. Murray being re-elected to the chair with acclamation. Secretary: Mrs Tickner: Treasurer: Mrs Cristall; Committee: Mesdames W. Murray, Lord. Armstrong and Miss Tunnicliffe, Messrs Lord, Mackrell, Cristall, Kedgely, Leslie, Pearse, Woods, Missen, Wir, ters, Dunning and Tickner; Canvassing and entertainment committees were also set up. At a subsequent meeting of the Social Committee, Mr Dunning was elected chairman, Miss Tickner sec-retary-treasurer, and M>r O. Lord official M.C. It was decided to carry on with the same dance series as usual, the opening dance to be on May 19.
