POST OFFICE SITE

USE OF SALE PROCEEDS

SOME AVAILABLE TO BOARD

At the meeting of the Harbour Board held on Friday the secretary, Mr C. G. Lucas, stated that not all the land being purchased by the P.W.D. for the site for Wliakatane's new Post Office was endowment, a small area of 7.2 perches worth at was estimated £300, had been purchased from the county and borough about six years ago for £75.

This fact would mean that the £300 would probably be available for use as the Board thought fit, and not be "tied lip" with the remaining £2400. The larger sum would have to be paid to the Public Trustee and then application made for tts spending with the result that it svas likely that such sum would have to be spent on further endowments. To obtain this sum would probably entail the spending by the Board of £100 to £150, but as the land had not cost the Board other than for the reclamation the position was not so bad as it might appear.
