PRISONER OF WAR

PARENTS RECEIVE LETTER

GORDON TIPPETT IN AUSTRIA.

Captured while in the thick of the Middle East campaign Private Gordon Tippett, of Whakakatane, is now a prisoner of war in Austria, and in a letter to his parents, Mr and Mrs S. H. Tippett, strikes a cheerful note. The letter is the first communication received from Private Tippett, who was a member of the Mobile Dental Section, since he was taken prisoner in Greece at the end of April.

It is great to be able to write you to let you know I am in the pink— fit and Avell. Up until now the days have been more or less the same, but we are hoping to go out on medical work this week which will makcthe time pass more quickly. I am tn Austria and it is a grand little country—very fresh and green. We have been informed that you people in New Zealand are allowed to send us four 101b parcels per month. Such things as chololates, tinned butter, meat paste, tobacco, cigarettes, cake, marmite and socks would be

much appreciated. I hope you have received the cards I have sent. They should have arrived by now (July 23) . Bill Reilly (Auckland) is here with me and the other boys are in camps in the vicinity. We will lie able to write quite often and may receive any number of letters. It will be great to get news from home and to know how you all arc. Look after yourselves till I get back and don't worry. Remember me to all Whakatane friends.
