OPOTIKI COURT

SEVERAL CASES DEALT WITH

The monthly sitting of the Opotiki Police Court was held in the o*potiki Courthouse last week before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M.

William Parkinson Kukumoa, was charged with using indecent language in a public placc, to wit, the Olpotiki Reserve.

Sergeant J. Isbister, who conducted proceedings on behalf of the police, stated that at a football match at the Opotiki Reserve defendant was in the stand where there was a fair crowd of people of both sexes. Defendant used the language in the heat of the game when a player did something that he did not approve. It was not a bad case. Defendant was fined £3.

Irimana Kerei, a farmer at Te Kaha, was charged that on August 15 at Te Kaha he stole various articles such as battery cable, priming screw, milk bucket, benzine, etc. of a total value of 14s: 6d. Defendant pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined £2 on each of the two charges and was ordered to make a refund of 6s for the benzine.

Sid Rewita, was proceeded against by Inspector Morell, on a charge ol driving a car on August 20 not being the holder of a driver's license. Defendant was fined 5s and costs £1 7s.

Thomas Riri was charged by Inspector Morell with riding a bicycle on August 20 during the hours of darkness without sufficient lighting. A fine of 5s and 12s costs was imposed.

Amy Hutt was proceeded against by Inspector Morell for failing to keep ten cows from wandering in Bridge Srteet. A fine of £1 and 10s costs was imposed.

Frank Hutt was proceeded against by Inspector Mo re II for failing to keep horses off Stewart Street on August 5. A fine of £1 and 10s costs was imposed.—News.
