CALEDONIAN HALL
Sir, —The most appropriate name for tlie hall lately bought by the Caledonian Society must certainly be Caledonian Hall. The names Scots Hall and Burns Hall as suggested are quite out of the question. The word "Caledonia," the name given by the Romanis of olcl to that "pairt ayont the Sohvay," is a beautiful' word —a poetic word —used by* Sir Walter Scot in his fine line: "O Caledonia! stern and wild." Let us perpetuate that ancient word. Over the entrance door I would like to see in the language of the ancient Caledonians the words; "Ceud mile failte" painted there in the colours of Scotland.
The idea of a large inglenook is a happy one. I'm told a lady member has expressed her willingness to provide a large fireside to the building. All honour, to that lady. Our diversions could then be truly called Ihglesides — frolics round the fireside. With the aulcl folks roun' the fire and the young folk dancing around such a setting would sure fire the mind \vi' thochts o' hame.
Yours, etc.,
CALEDONIA.-
