DENTAL CLINIC QUESTION

Sir, —I have read with interest in the BEACON of the efforts of Edgecumbe people to have dental treatment for children in their own district. It seems that the present system of sending children in a bus to the Whakatane Dental Clinic is not good enough. Not being a resident of Edgecumbe I may be excused for wondering why the people out that way rlo not use their motor cars (mostly 8 or 6 cylinder) to bring these children of tender years into Whakatane. My wonder was increased after reading in the BEACON recently that when the BEACON reporter was at Edgecumbe to attend a Farmers' Union meeting he found motor cars in great numbers, some being parked near the hall, others near the picture theatre and others at the hall where theFarmers' Union met. Surely this indicates that people out on the Plains have cars and also benzine with which to go to the pictures. Perhaps it is a fact that the parents, who are blessed with children of dental clinic age, are too poor, to own cars. If so, then there must be plenty of other car-owners in that district who could combine Public duty with their business or pleasure and so help to'bring these children to the Whakatane Dental Clinic. That is mv idea of meeting the Dental Clinic Powers-that-Be halfway. TOWN READER.
