MUST MEET MiSING COSTS AN EMPHATIC DEMAND A motion dealing with the guaranI ettd pricc was passed at the annual meeting of suppliers of the Rangi. taiki Plains Dairy Company at Edgeeumbe on Thursday, Proposed by Mr A. E. Lambert its terms were: "This meeting of suppliers of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Co., Ltd. expresses its emphatic opinion that, if the decline which has been a feature of the Dominion's dairy production during the past two seasons is to be arrested, it is essential that an adequate net return be assured to farmers. This can be done by giving full practical effect to the provisions of the Primary Products Marketing Act n.s it refers to the price to be paid for dairy produce, and we insist that as a minimum the recommendations of the 1938-39 advisory com mittee .should be granted plus ascertainable increases in costs which have occurred since. We furthsr represent that, if increases in wages of fr.rm employees are proposed as a result of any increase in prices, due provision should be made in the price paid to enable such increases to be paid." Mr Lambert said costs had risen very considerably and unless some incentive was given to th >se in the? industry to progress and carry out further developmental work they were going to have a further decline in production. A farmer must be able to create a reserve against emergencies.
