COMPANY AFFAIRS

MR LAMBERT'S INQUIRIES A searching critic of the 1 affairs of the Rangitaiki Dairy Co. L'td. was again on his feet at the annual meeting at Edgecumbc on Thursday when Mr A. E. Lambert followed the chairman, Mr W. A. McCracken, Pad questioned him with several points arising from the report. Mr Lambert dealt with the causes of rising costs, and said that then: had been a major permanent increase which could not be attributed to the unfortunate season. Tiiis was countrv.wide. All things considered he thought they could congratulate the directors on the pay-out. Dealing with the matter of quality he said that it must be considered very closely. He suggested that a special committee of the directors be set up to visit other factories where there were better results achieved and see if they could learn something. They had expended £11,. OOQ in new plant and should get better. results.

On the subject of. grading he was not altogether sure that the graders in the cool stores were unaware, of the origin of the butter they handled. Some time ago the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company had complained about the same thing. He wondered whether the fact that they sent their butter by boat instead of rail might have something to do with it. Mr McCracken said that it was al_ most impossible to calculate costs ahead. xYt the beginning of last season they thought that with the acquiring of the extra supply through zoning they would be able to reduce them. Referring to over-run another point raised by Mr Lambert, Mr McCracken said it had been stated that the standard over.run should be 21.2, whereas Rangitaiki's was 21.995 Many factors could affect this. The over-run Avas analysed each month. Though it was high it fluctuated very little and 'this was'satisfactory.
