RADIO TELEPHONE TRAFFIC

LINK WITH UNITED KINGDOM

FULLY BOOKED FOR CHRISTMAS DAY

(P.A.) Wellington, today. Radio telephone calls both to and from the United Kingdom arc fully booked for Christmas Day. The majority of the traffic would be disposed of in a three-hour session from midnight to 3 a.m.. said a Wellington Post Office official. A period from 8.30 pan. to 9.30 pan. would also be available, but as conditions were not generally favourable at this time it was not expected that much could bo done to relieve the congestion during this period. Under favourable conditions an average of six calls an hour would bo handled.

No difficulty i's anticipated with Australian calls as 15 hours of operating: time are available this year as against 10 last year. The calling period will be from 9 a.m. to midnight daily, and calls have been booked from all parts of New Zealand. Calls to and from the United States will bo dealt with hi two periods—from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Calls have been booked for many parts of Europe.
