NATIONAL YACHTING CONTESTS
SUBSCRIPTION LIST OPENED
£23 8s RAISED TO DATE
The Tauranga and Mount Maunganui Yacht and Power Boat Clubs are receiving subscriptions for the national yachting contest fund. Donations received to date total £23 Bs, from the following:— Tauranga Regatta Club £5 ss, Mr E. H. Drew £5, Tauranga Borough Council £5, Carter Clothing Company £4 10s, Mr L. Steele £l 12s, Mr T. F. Connor £1 Is, Master R. Cruden 10s, Master C. Southey 10s. The two clubs face a big expense i'n running the contests on the Tauranga harbour. Because of the insufficient number of boats, the assistance of other yachting centres has been sought. To bring the boats to Tauranga entails much expense in freight and insurance charges. The moneys raised will be spent in the district. An indication of the necessity for financial assistance is provided by the fact that cost of meals alone for visiting crev/s is estimated to bo in the vicinity of £2OO, and that £4OO will be required to cover the complete cost of the contests.
