NEW DEVELOPMENT IN SHOE DESIGNS
(Special to The Times)
Among fashion exhibits at this year's British Industries Fair will be unique "Jacqmar" scarves. Several new designs will be shown for the first time including "Lilliput" scarves for the Junior Miss. Two of the designs should be of particular interest for overseas visitors: • "London" which shows scenes of famous London landmarks etcheH diagonally across trn onuaye and "Olympic Games" depicting in two series " the spirit ■of Olympics and various sporting events taking place. Another interesting exhibit in this section will be a new pyjama style which is eaually for or sports wear. Originally designed for tropical climates, this twopiece pyjama is made in lightweight rayon crepe printed in a multitude of colours in "rumba" stvle.
Many new shoe designs will also be on show including ladies' platform and casual type shoes made by an entirely new method of construction.' The platform -is made from rubberised cork which acts as on insulator and protects the foot from . heat and cold. A doublesealed welt gives protection from wet or damp weather. These novel shoes can be repaired without disturbing the platform or altering the original shape of the shoes. Also on show for the first time at the 8.1. F. will be men's crepesoled shoes which, although stronglv built and hard wearing, are far lighter and more flexible than standard types. The absence of metal in construction of the shoes allows for easy repair, for instance an old crepe sole can be replaced by a new one in urider 15 minutes. The prototvpe shoes were incidentally tested by a pcstman who w*e them for months on his route in rough country. His verdict after that gruehmg traditional test was: "It was.like walking on air."
