SUITS PREDOMINANT AT RACES
CONSERVATIVE APPROACH . . TO "NEW LOOK"
A conservative approach to the "New Look" was shown by women punters at the ooening cf the Bay of Plenty Racing Club's autumn meeting held on Saturday. Although a slightly longer hemline was favoured by most patrons, there was no sign of the exaggerated Parisian designs, which include nipped-in waists, padded hips and full skirts. Although the day was warm, only verv few light frocks were seen, the majority of women wearing twopiece suits in light-weight woollens »nd costumes. Although many outfits were of black and neutral shades, colour was introduced by blouses, and brooches, chatelaines being very popular. Plats were mostly small, with little or no trimming, and were generally worn at the back of the head. One or two were seen with ribbon trimming, an accessory that has become popular overseas. The younger generation appeared to favour felt berets and felt or cor-duroy-derby hats.
