BLUE MARLIN LANDED

MAYOR ISLAND WATERS Rare Type Of Fish First To Be Caught Off N.Z. Coast A blue marlin, as far as is known, the first to be caught in New Zealand waters, was landed in Mayor Island waters yesterday from Maharatia by Mr C. Anderson, of Hastings, a nephew of Mr H. P. Anderson, of Tauranga. Its weight was 4841 b. The fish was brought to Tauranga last evening by Dauntless. It was packed and sent by road to the Auckland museum, where it was due to arrive this morning. This species of marlin is rare, very few having been caught, and these mostly off the Bahamas and Cuba. The world record for a blue marlin is one of 7371 b, which' was taken in the Bahamas in 1941. Mr A. W. B. Powell, assistant director of the Auckland Institute and Museum, said last night, as far as he knew, this was the first blue marlin caught on the New Zealand coast.
