PETROL RATIONING IN NEW ZEALAND

SYSTEM OF DISTRIBUTION SATISFACTORY

REINTRODUCTION OF COUPONS NOT NECESSARY

(P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 16. "In spite of the abnormal conditions of travel created by the Christmas holiday season, the system of petrol distribution carried out through the resellers at the request of the Minister of Supply, Mr Nordmeyer, has worked very satisfactorily, and has left no reason to doubt that, with traffic returning to normal, the results anticipated by the Minister will be achieved," said Mr R. W. Roydhouse, president of the North Island Motor Union, in a statement today. "The success of the rationing system in vogue makes the reintroduction of wartime rationing by coupon unnecessary, though apparently an effort is being made in some quarters to discredit the present system in favour of the more cumbersome coupon method. Motorists are co-operating in assisting the Minister and the Aid to Britain Committee in their efforts and with the continued co-operation of resellers who seek to make the system work satisfactorily, as it is doing, there is no necessity, in my opinion, to reintroduce coupons. The Minister is assured of the fullest cooperation of private motorists."
