INFLATION MUST BE STOPPED
WARNING BY PRESIDENT TRUMAN
PRICE AND WAGE CONTROL MEASURES London, Jan. 14. President Truman has declared that a depression in the United States is a certainty unless prompt measures are taken to stop inflation. In his annual economic report to Congress he said that, during the last six months, food prices had been rising, fuel and lighting had increased by 26 per cent, and textiles by 12 per cent. The President urged Congress to put through an anti-inflation programme which would include price and wage control and rationing powers. "
