RIOTS IN ITALIAN SOMALILAND

FORTY ARABS REPORTED KILLED SITUATION NOW UNDER CONTROL

London, Jan. 12, There has been rioting at Mogdishu in the former Italian Somaliland, where the four-power commission on the future of Italian colonies in Africa started work.

A despatch from Nairobi says a passenger aircraft which took off from Mogdishu this morning had to turn back. A message was signalled that the station had to close down because of the rioting. Forty Arabs are said to have been killed. The riots broke out yesterday. A statement from East Africa Command said that local Italians and Somalis clashed, and there are believed to have been casualties on both sides.

The situation was brought under control by the early afternoon.
