LANDING AT LIBERIA

U.S. FORCES

Berlin and Vichy Reports

No Confirmation London. Oct. IS. There is no official news of the landing of United States forces in Liberia. The landing is reported both from Berlin and Vichy. The Germans call it an invasion. The reports .state that American troops have been landed at Monrovia, capital of Liberia. Axis submarines were encountered 500 miles off the coast. President Roosevelt's representative has left for America to report to him. Liberia was the last West African stronghold of the Germans in the Great War. •

It is reported that the German Consul and his staff are to be asked to leave.

Monrovia is 750 miles south of Dakar.
