DOGGED BY U-BOATS
BIG ATLANTIC CONVOY
Repented Attacks Ships Reach Port Safely ' London. Oct.' IS. A big Atlantic convoy has just reached Britain after repeated attacks, lasting four days, were made on it by a park of U-boats. The attacks were foiled by the Royal Navy, the R.A.F- and U.S. naval aircraft. Eight attempts were beaten oft'. *
When the presence of U-boats was first suspected U.S. planes from Iceland came over hut the subs laid low. Next day the number of submarines increased and a Catalina bombed two which crash-dived and also bombed a third and machinegunned the conning tower. Then another was bombed by a Hudson and also machine-gunned. Soon after a Flying Fortress attacked a U-boat which crash-dived and in the evening two Catalinas each attacked a submarine. Two
more were seen the following day and a Hudson attacked one which made a cirash dive- T went y- four hours later the convoy was safe.
