MOTOR ACCIDENT

MR CHAS. HARTLEY INJURED. An accident occurred in front of the Post Office between five and six o'clock last evening, as a result of which Mr Chas. Hartley suffered a severe compound fracture of the left leg below! the knee. Mr Hartley was on his way to* the Post Office to post a letter, in a car driven by Mr Walbran, in which was also Mr Arthur- Stewart. When near the Post Office steps Mr Hartley jumped off on the far side when the car was still moving, and the other occupants were unaware that anything untoward had occurred until they heard Mr Hartley calling. What actually happened is not quite clear, but apparently Me Hartley slipped and the car passed over his leg. Dr Tovey was immediately summoned and quickly arrived. After rendering first aid, Mr Hartley was removed to the hospital, and is reported this morning to be doing as well aa can be expected.
